Canton Roots: Deep, Proud, Growing
Canton, Oklahoma was founded in the early 1900s during the Oklahoma land rush era. Originally inhabited by the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes, the area is rich in Native American and pioneer heritage.
In 1905, the town grew rapidly with the arrival of the Cantonment military post and the railroad, becoming a vital hub for trade and agriculture.
Canton Lake, created in 1948 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, turned the town into a destination for fishing, camping, and outdoor recreation.
Today, Canton is a proud, tight-knit community that honors its past while welcoming new visitors to enjoy its history, beauty, and small-town charm.
